Harpoon
Moonlight drapes the garden with a lullaby
cold as a harpoon. It knows its target,
the heart. Later, the helpless, useful thing
will dive and flail, ribcage the staves
of a boat. We know this story, we know
this song. But it’s got a rope on it.
It flies back.
